Energy is the fuel of the global economy. Without sufficient energy to heat and light our houses, run our businesses, power our manufacturing plants, and stoke our cars and planes, our world would come to a standstill. Energy is provided via an Energy Harnessing Network – a complex system that starts with extraction from a variety of sources and then moves to transformation, storage, distribution and finally utilization. Global megatrends such as climate change and resource scarcity force a rethinking of this crucial network, especially in the light of a reshuffling of global economic activity and significant demand growth in the developing world. Innovative solutions are required to ensure that the world’s economy is fuelled in a socially and environmentally responsible way that is also economic.A global restructuring with so many constraints is highly complex, and demands innovative solutions from businesses and governments. A select group of specialists from industry, civil society, government and academia have therefore analysed this global challenge from different viewpoints and determined critically important requirements for a successful rearrangement of the Energy Harnessing Network. Safe drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene are crucial to human health and well-being. Safe WASH is not only a prerequisite to health, but contributes to livelihoods, school attendance and dignity and helps to create resilient communities living in healthy environments.
Drinking unsafe water impairs health through illnesses such as diarrhea, and untreated excreta contaminates groundwaters and surface waters used for drinking-water, irrigation, bathing and household purposes. Chemical contamination of water continues to pose a health burden, whether natural in origin such as arsenic and fluoride, or anthropogenic such as nitrate.Safe and sufficient WASH plays a key role in preventing numerous NTDs such as trachoma, soil-transmitted helminths and schistosomiasis. Diarrheal deaths as a result of inadequate WASH were reduced by half during the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) period (1990–2015), with the significant progress on water and sanitation provision playing a key role.Evidence suggests that improving service levels towards safely managed drinking-water or sanitation such as regulated piped water or connections to sewers with wastewater treatment can dramatically improve health by reducing diarrheal disease deaths.Source: WHO- World Health Organization.

4. Biodiversity is a significant part of life in the world: Biodiversity not only consists of the animals living of earth but also the forests, grasslands and tundra, which are significant features in maintaining the life-cycle of the eco-system.
5. Forests provide raw materials for various consumer products: Forests are a significant part of the environment, which helps in providing various raw materials such as food, rubber, timber and essential oils. Forest management means availability and sustainable use of these natural resources.
6. Forests provide habitats for a variety of species: Almost half of the species live in forests thus destroying the forests would lead to the destruction of the ecosystem at large.
7. The way in which a person protects the environment reflects their personality: Just as the way you treat other people reflects your personality, the way you treat the environment reflects who you actually are. A good person will treat the environment responsibly. So treat the environment well and prove that you indeed have a good personality.
8. It is a way to give to your generation: One will be happier in life if you focus on giving rather than receiving. Treating the environment well is one way to give to the others in your generation. By treating the environment well, you make the planet a better place to live for everyone. You help yourself and others to have higher quality of life.
9. It is a way to give back to the planet: Whether we realize it or not, we can only live by consuming resources provided by this planet. Take energy for instance. We only get the energy by utilizing resources like oil and coal provided by the earth. This is not to mention basic needs like food and water.
10. The environment is effective in generating successful food chain: The sun provides light for the plants. The plants are food for the animals that are in turn consumed by other animals. Therefore, destroying the environment would destroy the food chain system.
11. The trees that are a significant part of the environment helps in keeping the climate cool: trees play a significant role in creating shades on the ground. Urban trees help buildings stay cool, reducing the need for electric fans or air conditioners, while large forests can tackle daunting tasks.
12. The environment is useful in maintaining the earth’s balance: Trees also have another way to beat the heat: absorb CO2 that fuels global warming. Plants need some CO2 for photosynthesis which is stored in wood, leaves and soil, often for centuries. The forests equally absorb impurities from emissions.
13. A balanced ecosystem results in rain: large forests have the tendency of influencing the weather patterns hence creating their own microclimates.
14. Trees, a significant part of the environment, play a critical role in the refilling of aquifers: Forests are like giant sponges, catching runoff rather than letting it roll across the surface, but they cannot absorb all of it. Water that gets past their roots trickles down into aquifers, replenishing groundwater supplies that are important for drinking, sanitation and irrigation around the world.
15. Trees play a significant role in blocking the wind: Farming near a forest has many benefits, like bats and songbirds that eat insects or owls and foxes that eat rats. Nevertheless, trees can also serve as windbreakers.
16. Trees help in keeping dirt in its place: A forest’s root network stabilizes huge amounts of soil, bracing the entire ecosystem’s foundation against erosion by wind or water. Not only does deforestation disrupt all that, but also the ensuing soil erosion can trigger new, life-threatening problems like landslides and dust storms.
17. Many animals need the environment for survival: As the environment gets destroyed, the more animals in the ecosystem perish. As the environment is degrading, most of the animal species face extinction.
18. Preserving the environment could prevent soil erosion: Soil erosion is a factor that occurs due to various human activities that have led to environmental degradation. Erosion can occur naturally from the impact of water and wind, or it can be encouraged by irresponsible farming practices.

Maintaining the environment slows down global warming: Deforestation adds more carbon and carbon dioxide that capture and absorb heat, thus speeding up the process of global warming by making the Earth hotter. The forest slows this process down because carbon dioxide is stored in the trees and also converts it to the oxygen.
20. Maintaining the environment leads to the creation of the natural watersheds: The plants and trees in the forest catch rain and other types of moisture. It helps water to naturally discharge into larger water bodies like the lakes and rivers. This maintains water quality and enables aquatic systems to flourish.
21. The environment provides an excellent source of groundwater: The Forest Service has reported that 20% of our drinking water comes from forests. In forest ecosystems, rain and moisture is made into groundwater that is collected as freshwater used for drinking.

Social mobilization is the process of bringing together all societal and personal influences to raise awareness of and demand for health care, assist in the delivery of resources and services, and cultivate sustainable individual and community involvement.

Social mobilization is an important means to advance sustainable development policy by making it more responsive and accountable to people’s needs and demands. Social movements often emerge from a sense of shared injustice, and “make visible alternative ideas and concepts about the forms that society (and development) should take.” Influenced in part by the spread of social media and new information technology, civil society has gained momentum in advocating change on a range of topics, from climate change to women’s empowerment, from social justice to transparent governance.

The potential to harness the growing power of social mobilization for health promotion is tremendous. Because health touches the lives of everyone, everywhere, and since health inequities stem from and contribute to other inequities, integrating health promotion into various efforts for change can push the SDGs forward. The universal and indivisible Agenda 2030 offers a powerful stimulus to form alliances, and to expand the space for all people to participate in meaningful decision-making.

Good health is about the mind as well as the body - feeling physically fit, and feeling good about ourselves, means that we can go and achieve more of the things we want to do in life. Staying in good health is important to all of us, and can become particularly important in later years.

The best way to stay healthy - physically and mentally - is by learning how to take care of yourself, and about the support you can get to help with any health problem you might already have. Sometimes it's difficult to find the motivation, the time and the energy to make a few changes in our lives. We're all human! However a bit of effort can pay off in many ways.
